Erisa, a member of the English club, passed Eiken Grade 1 this summer. Here is her comment.

   When I first began studying for Eiken Grade 1, I was hopeless because there were much more difficult terms compared to Grade Pre-1. However, I made sure to study some new words every day, even if it was just for a couple of minutes, so that it would become a habit. I also solved multiple past exam questions and whenever I came across a word I wasn’t familiar with, I always looked it up. It motivated me to study even harder when I saw that my scores on past exams were improving. In addition, because I found the speaking exam harder than the first exam, I read global news articles daily to be more aware of social issues and avoid getting stuck for words during the actual test.

   When I finally saw my exam results, I learned that consistent efforts truly pays off, and it gave me confidence to overcome challenges that are yet to come. I am especially grateful to the teachers at Ashikaga High School who helped me prepare for the speaking exam.

We participated in the Tochigi Spring Debate Tournament PDA Leagues 2025 and here are the results.

Day : June 8th

Venue : Utsunomiya Higashi High School

Member : Sayami, Miyu, Yuko, Aoi, Erisa[absent]

Result : Second place

Motion : Round1-THW impose a fat tax on unhealthy food.

              Round2-THW actively encourage high school students to have part-time job.

              Round3-THBT education in ICT should be prioritized over English education in compulsory education in Japan.

              Round4-THBT a world with marriage causes more harm than good.

              Round5-THW abolish the death penalty.

Comment: This was the last tournament for us third-year students, so we all came together with one heart and gave it our all in the matches. The result of our practice exceeded our expectations, and we were able to finish in second place. Also, every member was able to place in the individual competitions, which made us really happy. I truly felt from the bottom of my heart that all the hard work we've put in so far was worth it.

 We are the English club. We meet every Tuesday and Thursday. We mainly debate in English in preparation for tournaments. However, we also do fun activities like play games such as wink killer, werewolf game, and boardgames, have a Halloween party, and much more. The ALT teacher come to our English club once in a while as well. If you join the English club, you can improve your English skills and make many friends.

 On June 9th, we went to Tochigi Spring 2024 PDA tournament in Utsunomiya Higashi high school. We had five rounds. The result was three wins and two losses, but every game was a narrow margin. We all worked together and did our best. We want to do our best for the next tournament!
