Russia 'ready' to host 2032 Euros; bid unlikely due to Ukraine war
2:09
Russia's football association is aiming to return to the international stage despite sanctions imposed on Moscow over its war in Ukraine. "Russia is always ready," association president Alexander Dyukov said when asked by the Russian portal Sport24 whether his country would be prepared to host the 2032 European Football Championship if the current co-host, Italy, were to withdraw. Dyukov did not say whether Russia had actually submitted a new bid to host the tournament. The European football governing body UEFA had already declared Russia's bid to host the Euros inadmissible in 2022, following...
German editor faces incitement probe over police 'infiltration' post
2:09
The editor-in-chief of a right-wing German news portal is under investigation by Berlin police on suspicion of incitement to hatred over a post on social media. A spokesman for the Berlin public prosecutor's office confirmed on Monday that Julian Reichelt, who leads the populist Nius outlet, is being probed over a post on X on April 1. The post warned that Germany's police is set to face "infiltration and then takeover in the coming years" before becoming "Arab dominated" in 10 years. Reichelt confirmed the proceedings in a post on X on Monday. "Because I predicted here on X that the police wo...
Half a million birds culled as avian flu spreads rapidly in Germany
2:09
Half a million birds have been killed in Germany due to an outbreak of avian influenza, the country's animal health institute said on Monday. The Friedrich Loeffler Institute (FLI) said 30 outbreaks have been recorded in poultry farms and 73 cases in wild birds since the beginning of September. More than 500,000 chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys have been killed in response. Thousands of livestock have been pre-emptively culled in several other German states after FLI analyses confirmed infections with the highly contagious H5N1 avian influenza virus. Wild birds migrating to southern regions ...
Tesla pushes shareholders to back massive Musk pay deal
2:09
Tesla is stepping up pressure on shareholders to approve an unprecedented compensation package for chief executive Elon Musk, warning he could leave the company if the plan is rejected. In a letter to shareholders on Monday, board chair Robyn Denholm said the package, to be voted on ahead of the November 6 annual meeting, could be worth about $1 trillion — but only if Musk meets a series of ambitious targets, including boosting the automaker's market value more than fivefold over the next decade. Other conditions include Tesla deploying 1 million robotaxis, delivering 1 million humanoid robots...
Spain's Sánchez sees hold on power weaken as Catalan party backs out
2:09
The left-wing minority government of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez in Spain is losing one of its allies in parliament, putting the future of his administration at risk. The Junts party of Catalan separatist leader Carles Puigdemont decided to cancel its support pact with Sánchez's Socialist Party (PSOE), Junts confirmed to dpa on Monday. The party's 50-member board reached the decision unanimously at a meeting in Perpignan in France, state TV station RTVE and other media outlets reported. The board met in France, not Spain, because of outstanding arrest warrants for several members, including P...
