【理科・地学基礎】鹿沼土・赤玉土の観察を行いました！
kurihara本校の普通科３年生は、物理選択者と地学選択者に分かれて授業を行っています。
今回は、地学基礎を選択している生徒に「火山灰の観察」と称して赤玉土と、地元特産の鹿沼土を観察してもらいました。
環境緑地科の生徒にはおなじみの鹿沼土ですが、普通科の生徒にとっては「聞いたことはある」「小学校の授業で習った！」といううっすらとしたイメージのようです。
まずは観察しやすくするために、椀がけ法で余分な土を落としていきます。指でつぶしては洗いを繰り返し、黒い粒のみになるまで根気よく繰り返します。
乾いたら、プレパラートを作成して顕微鏡で観察していきます。
今回は土A、土Bと名前をふせた状態にしてどちらが鹿沼土か当ててもらいました。
実体顕微鏡の台数が少ないため、通常の顕微鏡とペンライトを駆使して観察しています。
１枚目の画像が鹿沼土、２枚目が赤玉土です。
鹿沼土は色がついていない無色鉱物が多く含まれており、一方赤玉土には有色鉱物が多く含まれていることがわかります。ペンライトで光を当てると鉱物がキラキラと輝く様子に、「きれい！」と驚きの声も聞こえました。
生徒は土を判別した後、含まれる鉱物一つ一つを丁寧に観察し、これは磁石についてくるから磁鉄鉱かな？こっちはかんらん石？と鉱物の特定に挑戦していました。
事前学習とこの観察を通して、鹿沼土により親近感を持ってもらえたらと思います。
