Dutch military fires on drones over air base near German border
3:43
Dutch military personnel at Volkel Air Base fired at several drones flying over the facility on Friday evening, the Defence Ministry said. The air base is located near the city of Nijmegen, close to the German border. The drones were fired at using ground weapons, the ministry said in a statement on Saturday, without specifying what weapons were used. The drones departed the area and were never recovered, it said. The Dutch gendarmerie and police are conducting an investigation, the ministry said. Drones have repeatedly caused disruptions to European airspace in recent months, including in Bel...
Spain beat Germany to reach Davis Cup final against holders Italy

Spain will face Italy in the Davis Cup final after defeating Germany 2-1 on Saturday. The Spanish side took the lead in the semi-finals match-up after Pablo Carreno Busta beat Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4, 7-6 (8-6). But world number three Alexander Zverev levelled for the Germans with a 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-5) triumph over Jaume Munar. In the decisive doubles match, Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez prevailed 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 against Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz. In Sunday's final on home soil in Bologna, Italy will bid for a third consecutive Davis Cup title. Italy became the first nation to reach a h...
Two reportedly killed as Israel attacks Hezbollah targets in Lebanon
3:43
Israel on Saturday launched renewed attacks on the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia in Lebanon, the military said. Launchers and military sites of Hezbollah were hit in the Beqaa area in the east of the country and in southern Lebanon, it said in a post on Telegram. "The presence of the launchers and the military activity at these sites constitutes a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon," the military said. Lebanon's state news agency NNA reported that two people were killed in two separate strikes. Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire in November last year, following ...
'We will go dancing:' Merz and Lula overcome Belém controversy at G20
3:43
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva appear to have put aside tensions sparked by Merz's disparaging comments on the Brazilian city that hosted the COP30 climate talks. It was a little over a week ago that Merz made it abundantly clear he was happy to be back home after visiting the Brazilian Amazon city of Belém. But there was no trace of bad blood when the two leaders met again on the sidelines of G20 talks in South Africa on Saturday - an encounter that was described by sources close to Merz as "very harmonious." "They hugged each other verbally...
UN climate talks in Brazil fizzle without fossil fuel phase-out deal
3:43
UN climate talks in Brazil ended on Saturday without a binding plan to phase out planet-warming fossil fuels, with countries backing only a voluntary initiative to accelerate national efforts. The UN Climate Change Conference, or COP30, was 19 hours into overtime when the agreement was announced. While the outcome was less ambitious than some countries, particularly in Europe, had hoped for, there had been fears the fraught talks could collapse without any consensus reached at all. German Environment Minister Carsten Schneider expressed his disappointment, saying that the oil-producing nations...
